Dental, vision and hearing examinations; blood (anemia) and TB testing; physicals, asthma and diabetes screening; and immunizations comprise the check list of services available for children who attend the ACT Kids Health Fair. In 2005, literacy and reading readiness screening for 4-5 year olds was added. Although the health of these children is a serious matter, a little fun helps make the tests, check-ups, and pokes a little easier to "swallow." Both children and their families are entertained by clowns and a variety of humorous and well-known Valley mascots. In addition, a Phoenix Fire Department fire truck usually is on display and face painting often helps to divert their attention. |
